Client: "General Electric Hydro France Subsidiary Latvia"
Industry: Renewable Energy
Challenge: Outdated Systems and Unexpected Obstacles
"General Electric Hydro France" was responsible for refurbishing six hydro units (HU1-HU6) at the Riga Hydroelectric Power Plant. The project, which began in 2015, faced complications as technology advanced. By the time it reached its final stages, many of the specified systems were outdated and no longer available. This led to compatibility issues between old SCADA protocols and newer hardware, in addition to IT security challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic also disrupted timelines, requiring quick adjustments to maintain progress.
Our Solution: Expertise and Flexibility
Eddi Ltd. provided essential support to overcome these challenges. We resolved interface problems between outdated SCADA systems and new hardware, ensured the project met all IT security standards, and helped facilitate a smooth project handover. When the pandemic posed difficulties, we adapted our work practices to keep the project on track.
As Aivars Revelis, former authorized representative of "General Electric Hydro France Subsidiary Latvia", said:
"Eddi proved to be more of a partner than a supplier,
bringing knowledge, best practices, and delivering exactly what was promised."
Results: Successful Completion and Seamless Integration
Despite the many challenges, we helped complete the refurbishment of the Riga HPP hydro units on time. By resolving connectivity and IT issues, we avoided the need for a costly redesign. Our flexibility and expertise ensured a smooth handover, equipping the plant with modernized control systems that will serve Latvia’s energy needs for years to come.
